Digital Trade and Data Governance Hub’s Data Governance Mapping Consultation

Digital Trade and Data Governance Hub's Data Governance Mapping Consultation

In 2019, the Hub created the first metric of global data governance for 68 countries and the EU. As AI has evolved, and as AI has become increasingly important to economic growth and national security, we have decided to revamp our indicator of data governance. Specifically, we want to understand what aspects of data governance are helpful as developers create, test, and deploy AI. Our indicators include strategies; new governance bodies; data protection laws; and international agreements.

As we refine our framework, we want to ensure we’re capturing the most critical aspects of AI and data governance. We’re looking for feedback on:

Missing Indicators – Are there strategies, policies, governance structures, international agreements, etc. that  we missed, or that we should include?
What Doesn’t Work – Are there indicators that are unclear, outdated, or not as relevant as they once were? For example, do we need Convention 108+ of the Council of Europe, referring to data protection?
General Comments – Any other insights, critiques, or suggestions to improve our approach?
